Windows server 2003 enable write caching on the disk

Enable Write Disk Caching setting not saving. New Member. I have not promoted it to a domain controller and the only role set is that of a file server. One of the legacy applications that it is for requires 'Write Disk Caching' enabling. So I go into the device manager disk properties and click on the policies tab to enable it. I get a message underneath the check box along the lines of: "This device does not allow its write cache setting to be modified" So, I check the box anyway and then when I go back in the setting hasn't saved at all.

Data: 0f 00 04 00 01 00 62 I have also tried the HP Array Configuration Utility which only has options for acceleration whch are on default settings.

The scary warning is there for a reason: If you check the box when your hardware does not satisfy the criteria, you risk data corruption. But it seems that even with the sternest warning available, people will still go in and check the box even though their device does not satisfy the criteria, and the dialog box says right there do not select this check box.

You need to investigate the issue and release a fix for it. Dangerous setting is dangerous. Comments are closed. I wrote a book Ground rules Disclaimers and such My necktie's Twitter. April 16th, Enable write caching on the disk This setting enables write caching in Windows to improve disk performance, but a power outage or equipment failure might result in data loss or corruption. Almost all servers performance is really very low.

The write cache parameter on the booting disk is not enabled andas the server does a lot of SQL activity web apps , executes schedulled backups, or copy files from one drive to each other or between workstantions, server performance is very very slow. If we enable write cache everything speeds up and works like a charm. When the server is restarted, write cache remains off and we have to manually turn it back on again to gain performance back. Microsoft wrote about this but they said it only affected Windows systems.

Almost every customer of us have a UPS system. Does anyone knows how to make the write cache enabled parameter persistent after restarting? Is this recommended? If not, how should we solve the performance issues? Thanks in advance! Join our community to see this answer!
